Typically less than six hours of discharge, making them unsuitable for many long duration storage needs.

Deep Discharge Distributed Compressed-Air Long Duration Energy Storage D3CALES (CAES)
YAFA Technologies has patented a deep discharge, distributed, long duration compressed air energy storage system. The first Deep Discharge CAES for distributed energy with modular units of (5–200 KWe) where conventional CAES has not been viable. It delivers longer storage duration, lower Levelised Cost of Storage (LCOS), hence lower cost per kWh, higher RTE, and multi-vector energy output (combined power, heat and cooling from a single system). Unlike lithium-ion batteries, it is non-flammable and does not depend on rare earth minerals.

Lithium-ion batteries cannot deliver what the grid needs
Capacity falls through electrochemical degradation and systems require replacement.
Thermal runaway creates safety, insurance and operating concerns.
Lithium processing and cell manufacturing are concentrated in a small number of markets.
D3CALES: distributed compressed air storage
The patented CALEG generates electricity and cooling from low-pressure compressed air in a single-stage conversion process. Stored heat is used to pre-heat the compressed air, supporting electrical round trip efficiency of 80%+ and overall efficiency of 90%+ when residual heat is used.
Designed for distributed energy users
Power and cooling from a single system.
Peak shaving, demand response and energy resilience.
Microgrids, farms, remote sites and island grids.
COMPETENT grant awarded
YAFA Technologies has been awarded support through the Horizon Europe COMPETENT programme for its long duration energy storage development. The award provides external validation of the technology and its development pathway.
£1M seed round for 12.5% equity
The round supports a working prototype at TRL 5–6, independent third party testing, manufacturing preparation, IP expansion and Series A positioning.
30% income tax relief, CGT exemption after three years and loss relief that can reduce the net downside to as little as 38.5p per £1 for additional rate taxpayers.
Advance Assurance is obtainable in approximately two weeks. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change.Leadership
